The Three Methods of Metal Work

Metalworking is the process of shaping and reshaping metal into useful objects. Metalworkers, also known as blacksmiths or fabricators,  are specialized workers that are uniquely qualified to work with metals. It can be aluminum, steel, gold, cast iron, or any other metal, they can work with it. There are three typical methods of metalworking, they are:

  • Forming: This is the process of manufacturing metal pieces, parts, and objects. It includes the design, forging, rolling, and bending of metals into their desired shape.

  • Cutting: Cutting is the process of cutting off the excess metal from a workpiece. It is done through grinding, drilling, turning, burning, water jet, plasma, or laser cutting.

  • Joining: Joining is the process of heating metal to the melting point or just below the metal point. The metal is then joined together by fusion or without fusion. Joining with fusion is known as fusion-welding and without it is solid-state welding.
